In detail
The 990 PRO runs Samsung's Pascal controller with V-NAND TLC. This is not a budget DRAM-less design: there is a dedicated DRAM cache, so sustained writes do not collapse the way they do on cacheless drives.
Sequential reads of 7450 MB/s sit near the ceiling of PCIe 4.0. In daily use something else matters more: random operations, at 1,400,000 IOPS. Those determine boot time, application launch, and level load times in games.
The 1200 TBW rating means that even writing 100 GB every day the drive outlasts thirty years. Warranty is five years. This version ships without a heatsink: on most boards none is needed since the board's own M.2 heatsink suffices, though in a cramped case with little airflow it is worth checking temperatures.
